Much has been made of the inconsistency that plagues Premier League giants Liverpool’s goalkeeping performances and, although Simon Mignolet has stepped up his game this season, the Reds are reportedly set to address this issue by signing Real Madrid shot stopper Keylor Navas, according to the Liverpool Echo.
It is no secret that the Costa Rica international is after a move away from the Bernabeu as he allegedly feels undervalued, particularly by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. Los Blancos have fallen to third in La Liga table, eight points behind rivals Barcelona, and face an uphill battle to retain their league title this season.
Despite his unhappiness Navas has had a successful time in the Spanish capital and has made 109 appearances for Real. This season marks his fourth in a Madrid shirt and he has won a league title, two Champions Leagues and a Club World Cup with the Galacticos.
Liverpool meanwhile find themselves in sixth position in the Premier League table after 10 games and have conceded a monumental 16 goals already in this campaign. Jurgen Klopp was slammed for failing to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk in the summer, and it looks as if the criticism was justified after the Reds’ horrendous defensive showing this season.
Keylor Navas would provide a step in the right direction for the Merseyside club in terms of shoring up their defence, and adding a defender or two alongside the talented keeper could catapult Liverpool back to the top of the footballing pile.
