Another day, and another piece of transfer news involving Premier League giants Liverpool. Are the Reds finally looking for a defender, I hear you ask? No, of course not, they’re still upset that Manchester City are scoring more goals than them, so now they’re going to buy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the Liverpool Echo.

In fairness, if goals are what they’re after then they will certainly find them in Aubameyang. The Gabonese international is somewhat of a specialist in that department, having netted 31 times in the Bundesliga last season for Borussia Dortmund. That’s no fluke either as he has already bagged a further 11 goals in 12 league appearances during this campaign.

Liverpool meanwhile aren’t struggling for goals themselves, and currently sit in fourth spot in the Premier League table with 33 goals to their name. Mohamed Salah has 12 of those, and the addition of Aubameyang would certainly make the Merseyside club an even more fearsome prospect going forward.

However, it is in the defensive areas that Liverpool have been struggling. Jurgen Klopp’s men have conceded 19 times already this season, and many believe that their shaky back line is holding them back from a real title challenge.

That said, reports also suggest that Daniel Sturridge could be on his way out in January, and that would open the door for a new forward to join. Could £70m Aubameyang really be the man to replace the England international?
