With star Brazilian Philippe Coutinho having made the switch to Barcelona in the last few days, Premier League giants Liverpool are unsurprisingly already in the market for a replacement, and have £130m to spend.
While the Coutinho-shaped hole in Jurgen Klopp’s squad will certainly be difficult to fill, the German coach is hoping that Atalanta’s Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez could be the man for the job, according to the Mirror.
The Argentinian international is in his fourth season with the Serie A club, and has registered four goals and six assists in 18 league appearances so far this season.
With impressive dribbling and technical ability, a keen eye for goal and a killer pass, and lightning pace, Gomez seems like the perfect fit for Liverpool.
The Reds have been in fine form during the first half of this Premier League campaign, and currently sit fourth in the table, two points behind third place Chelsea.
With 50 goals scored in just 22 games, the Merseyside club are one of the most devastating attacking sides in Europe, so minimising the impact of losing Coutinho is extremely important.
If Gomez can come into the squad and start contributing straight away then there is little doubt that Klopp’s mean can continue their good form into the second half of the season.
