Manchester United to nab Emre Can from Liverpool

Jose Mourinho intends to nab Liverpool midfielder Emre Can from right under the Merseyside club’s noses, according to ESPN. The German’s contract expires in the summer and he is yet to sign a new deal to keep him at Liverpool. This of course means that the player will be free to leave the club, and Manchester United are keen to swoop in and claim his signature should that happen.

United will have to battle Juventus for Can’s signature however as the Italian giants have been courting his for a while, but Mourinho’s side still offer the Premier League football that Can has grown accustomed to. The Red Devils are second in the Premier League, tied on points with their city rivals, and look more like genuine title contenders than Liverpool do at this stage. This step up would likely offer the midfielder a better chance at silverware than he currently has at Anfield.

Can has registered two assists in his five league appearances for Liverpool this season, but it looks like the German international would be destined for a deeper role at United. Can would replace United stalwart Michael Carrick who is set to retire in the summer, sitting in front of the back four and allowing fellow midfielder Paul Pogba to get forward freely.
